Fall-related workplace injuries affect thousands of construction workers each year. The DOB developed additional fall hazard requirements to complement those set forth by OSHA in order to decrease these incidents and improve job site safety. To ensure compliance with all federal and Local Law rules involving jobsite falls, the 8-Hour Fall Prevention for Construction course offers in-depth instruction on fall hazard identification, evaluation, prevention, and more.  Additionally, Workers can learn about drug and alcohol dependence problems and how they influence people, particularly at work, in the 2-hour drug and alcohol awareness course. The risks of drinking or using drugs at work will be taught to students, along with the warning indicators to look out for when assessing someone's potential for impairment. The training will discuss the negative impacts of drug and alcohol usage both personally and on job sites.

Per Local Law 196, all supervisors must have 62 hours of Site Safety Training along with a valid supervisor SST card. This course is required for all Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, Construction Superintendents, and Competent Persons​. According to the Building Code, a Construction Superintendent must name a competent person for each construction site for which they are accountable and ensure that this individual is present at all times when active work is being done on the site.

This 32-hour course ensures the Lift Director is properly trained to enforce safe rigging and lifting operations. A Lift Director is responsible for working with the crane operator, the signal persons, riggers, site supervisor, and any other personnel working near the lift. Topics in this program include tower cranes, mobile cranes, derricks, along with roles/responsibilities of site personnel, on-site meetings, record keeping and log/report requirements. 32-Hour Supported Scaffold Installer & Remover

This 32-hour supported scaffold course will cover OSHA regulations and DOB standards for safe methods of installation, removal, and modifications of different types of supported scaffolds. Some additional topics will include major scaffold components, worker training, how to read scaffold design drawings, and the importance of proper pre-planning. Throughout the course, students will participate in hands-on exercises in which they will build and dismantle supported scaffolds. 32-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor

Students will learn about OSHA regulations and New York City construction codes as they relate to the supervision of suspended scaffolds during this course. The most recent suspended scaffold standards will be covered, along with tips on how to analyze scaffold design drawings, check the rigging crew's health, appropriately teach personnel on relevant hazards, and recognize and handle emergency situations. The hands-on component of this course will teach students how to tie rope knots, terminate wire rope, design a block-and-tackle system, properly install fall prevention systems, and inspect/maintain various scaffold hoist motor types.
